The first exam will be on February 20, 2018.
For the midterm, you will have to:
- Convert between unsigned decimal, signed decimal, hex, and binary representations of 16-bit words.
- Compute saturated and modular sums, and indicate carry and overflow occurrences on modular sums.
- Express values using kibi, mebi, gibi (and similar) prefixes.
- Encode and decode floating-point values in the 32-bit IEEE-754 representation.
- Produce UTF-8 and UTF-16 encodings of codepoints.
- Demonstrate that you know the difference between big endian and little endian.
Review everything we have covered so far. Read all of the notes up to and including the “Character Encoding” page.
If I posted anything on Slack for you to read on the side, do so.
Review the in-class worksheets. Try some of the practice problems accessible from the course web page as well!
